It was funk music genius and former hair stylist GEORGE CLINTON who observed years ago that, in one respect, music was just like hair; when one style was getting hot, another one was getting cold. So if you wanted to be successful, you had to be able to adapt to the new styles. Something like that happened to classical music in the late 1960's. Electronic musicians did restyled versions of great classical pieces to showcase their new sound on familiar material. The original and by far the most famous of these projects was WENDY CARLOS' "Switched-On Bach" which sold over 3 million albums and introduced several generations of listeners to the sound of synthesizers.
The idea continues today. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, a program of electronic transcriptions of classical masterworks called REMASTERPIECE.
